Common questions
How do I start recording?
In Chrome: click the Rubil icon in your toolbar to open the widget, then click the recording button. You can also click the floating pill if it’s visible. On the Mac app: press Option+Space (the global hotkey) or click the menu bar icon.
Why does my text look generic instead of formatted for the app I’m in?
Rubil detects which app you’re writing in and formats accordingly. Make sure the Chrome extension is pinned and active, or that the Mac app is running. If you’re in a browser, Rubil reads the URL. On Mac, it reads the active app. If detection fails, it falls back to generic formatting.
How do I add words to my Glossary?
Open the Rubil widget → Glossary tab → Add entry. You can add People (with nicknames and phonetic hints), Acronyms (with expand/keep rules), Terms (with strict spelling), and Expansions (trigger phrases). You can also speak entries — Rubil will classify them automatically.
Is my audio stored?
No. Audio is sent to Groq for transcription and discarded immediately. Transcripts are sent to OpenAI for formatting and discarded. We never store your audio or transcripts on our servers. See our full data flow on the Trust page.
How much does Rubil cost?
Free tier: 1,000 words per day (about 30,000/month). Pro: $9/month for unlimited words. No credit card required for free tier.
Does Rubil work offline?
No. Rubil requires an internet connection for transcription and formatting. We use cloud-based processing for speed and accuracy.
Can I use Rubil in languages other than English?
Yes. Rubil supports every language that Groq’s transcription model handles, which includes most major world languages.
How do I get the Mac app?
Download the Mac app at download.rubil.io/Rubil.dmg. It’s a signed and notarized .dmg file. Drag it to Applications and you’re ready to go.
