If Rubil stops pasting

What you'll see

You dictate, and your words don't appear in the app you were typing in. The Rubil window opens on the Scratchpad with your text in it. Your text is also on your clipboard.

To use it right away, go back to your app, put the cursor where you want the text, and press Command-V.

Once, or every time?

If it happens now and then, in one app, that can be normal. Some apps don't let Rubil confirm that the paste landed, so Rubil plays it safe and keeps your text in the Scratchpad.

If it happens each time, in each app you try, macOS has most likely stopped letting Rubil paste. This can happen without any warning. The fix takes about a minute.

How to fix it

1. Open System Settings.

   Press Command-Space to open Spotlight, type "System Settings", and press Return.

2. Go to Privacy & Security, then Accessibility.

   You can also type "Accessibility" into the search field at the top of the sidebar.

3. Turn Rubil off.

   Find Rubil in the list and turn its switch off. macOS may ask for your password or Touch ID.

4. Turn Rubil back on.

   Turn the same switch on again.

5. Check Automation too.

   Go back to Privacy & Security and choose Automation. Under Rubil, make sure System Events is turned on.

6. Quit Rubil.

   Open the Rubil menu in the menu bar and choose Quit.

7. Open Rubil again.

   Press Command-Space, type "Rubil", and press Return. macOS often applies the change only after Rubil restarts.

8. Try it.

   Open TextEdit, start a new document, and dictate a short sentence. It should appear where your cursor is.

If Rubil isn't in the Accessibility list

Open the Rubil menu in the menu bar and choose "Grant Accessibility Permission…", then follow the prompt. You can also choose "Run Setup Again..." to go through setup from the start.

If it still doesn't paste

To get your last result back at any time, open the Rubil menu and choose "Show last result".
