How it works
Three steps, then you're talking.
- Right Optionor Option + Space
Tap one key.
Tap Right Option, or press Option and Space. You can also choose your own shortcut.
Talk.
Pause to think whenever you like. Rubil keeps listening until you tap the key again.

Your words land.
Right where you were typing. If Rubil can't paste, your text waits in Rubil.
Recovery
If sending fails, your take waits.
Rubil keeps what you said and shows Retry. You don't have to say it all again.
Every take is also saved in History on your Mac, and you can search it.
Your setup
Set it up the way you work.
- One key you choose. Right Option or Option and Space to begin with, or any shortcut you like.
- Keyboard or mouse. Start and stop with a key, or click the Rubil pill and then Stop.
- Clearer letters. Atkinson, a font that keeps similar letters apart.
- Your exact words, if you want them. One switch turns the cleanup off.

Before you download
Why does it ask for permissions?
The microphone, to hear you. Accessibility, so it can paste into the app you're using. Setup never asks about your health.
Where does my voice go?
Your audio goes to a speech service to become text. Your history stays on this Mac, encrypted.
What isn't tested yet?
Dysarthric speech and screen readers. We won't claim those until we've tested them.
What if I'm on Windows?
There is a Windows app. Download Rubil for Windows. Windows may show a SmartScreen warning, because the app is not signed yet. Rubil also runs in Chrome on Windows, on the same account. This page is for the Mac app.

Setup steps
Open Rubil.dmg and drag Rubil into Applications.
Open Rubil.
If your Mac asks whether to open it, choose Open.
Allow the microphone.
Why: Rubil has to hear you.
Sign in with Google.
Your free account keeps your plan and your Glossary.
Try a practice dictation.
Tap Right Option or press Option and Space, say a sentence, then press it again.
Turn on Rubil in System Settings, Privacy & Security, Accessibility.
Why: this is what lets Rubil paste into the app you're using.
Pick your shortcut.
Then tap Right Option, or press Option and Space, and talk.
Two switches in System Settings need a click. After that, you can start and stop with a key or with a click.
